Which definition each platform uses

Questions people ask
What is the engagement rate formula?
Interactions divided by an audience number, times 100. Platforms differ in the bottom number: X divides by impressions, TikTok and YouTube are usually measured against views, and Instagram against followers or reach.
What is a good engagement rate?
It depends on the platform, the account size and the formula, so compare like with like. This tool shows real posts from large accounts on X with their own usual rate, which is a fairer bar than a single industry average.
Why is my X rate lower than X Analytics shows?
X Analytics counts clicks, profile visits and other private actions as engagements. If you only enter the public counts, you get the public share of that number.
Should I use followers or reach for Instagram?
Followers to compare accounts with each other, reach to judge how one post did with the people who saw it. Say which one you used when you share the number.
